In IOS mail, “Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed” appears often in my yahoo mail account. I have removed the account and added it back twice. This has been going on for months. Same error on iPhone and iPad. The yahoo mail app works OK.

Thank you. I’ve contacted Yahoo and didn’t get any useful solutions. I would stop using IOS mail, but I have a number of other email accounts including a few from gmail and a private domain, so I need an app that shows all received mail in one place. Any suggestions?

the outlook app allows you to add other mail accounts, although I don't know if you would need an account first to be able to add it.
Yahoo mail is notoriously bad when it comes to using 3rd party app, which is why they push you to use their yahoo app.
Still having issues with yahoo.mail in the iOS mail app on iPhone 14 and iPad Air 4. Errors like not downloaded from server, etc. It’s been more than a year. I’ve tried everything that has been suggested. I want all of my email accounts in one place like iOS allows. I can’t use Outlook because one of the accounts is a private domain one. Has anyone figured this out?
Unfortunately it seems the the iOS mail app essentially creates a “log in” attempt each time it checks for mail with yahoo. After a while yahoo forcefully blocks the account for 60 mins to “prevent unauthorised access”.
As mentioned above, this is entirely a Yahoo issue with a view to push you towards using their own app. There are no workarounds as far as I can see. Maybe change email provider or succumb to having 2 apps rather than 1?
