Why does my noise cancellation not work on my airpod Max’s?

Have you tried resetting them by holding down the Digital Crown and the Noise Control button for 15 seconds, or until an amber light blinks?
AirPods Max may be counterfeit. To check their status, use the Apple Serial Number tool: Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support. But be aware- some counterfeit AirPods use stolen Serial Numbers.
