Airpods Pro 2 losing audio stream

My AirPods ‘Pro’ 2 (only 2 days old as of this post) are losing the audio stream sound in certain applications of use, where my previous non Pro AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 did not when connected to my Smart TV.

The Bluetooth connection is maintained, but it’s the audio stream that’s intermittently lost. Sometimes it maintains audio connection, but more often than not it is lost.

This happens more often than not after pausing playback and when resuming playback again.

It also happens when changing TV channel or picture source such as changing between Disney+, Netflix, normal live TV, etc.

If not pausing and/or if not changing channels or picture source, then the audio stream is maintained throughout.

Note: I must reiterate that the AirPods 2 and Airpods 3 did ‘not’ suffer this issue in any way and their audio streaming connection was maintained throughout even when pausing and changing channels and picture source. The problem is only apparent on my new AirPods Pro 2.

As mentioned, the Aipods Pro 2 do still maintain the actual Bluetooth connection itself as and when the fault occurs. The active connection is still visible in the TV.

The only temporary momentary fix at this stage appears to be disconnecting and reconnecting the AirPods Pro 2 on the TV end. Something that was not necessary for the Airpods 2 & 3. This temporary fix becomes fatiguing when having to pause the movie and when changing picture source.

I love the AirPods Pro 2 in every other way, for their sound, features, design and because they stay in my ear without falling out - the AirPods Pro 2 are definitely the ones for me personally. However this newly experienced loss of audio stream sound when pausing or changing picture source, is a real problem.

My new AirPods Pro 2 are currently on the latest firmware, version 5E135.

The Bluetooth connection was also re-paired, just in case the first attempt may have had a problem.

I can’t understand how the normal Aipods gen 2 & gen 3 were flawless in this regard, when used with the exact same identical setup and situation in which I’m now experiencing an issue with the AirPods Pro 2. Nothing else has changed within the setup, application and usage except for the model of AirPods.

Would sincerely love for this issue to be resolved.

Hi, forgive my late reply but I should have mentioned that I had tried the various resetting and reconnecting procedures to no avail. Even the few subsequent firmware updates to the AirPods Pro Gen2 have had no success with resolving the issue.

When investigating the Apple discussion forums after, it became clear that an extremely large amount of AirPods Pro gen 2 Users were experiencing the exact same problem (I have placed the link for that discussion further down below).

However I’m grateful for your efforts and attempt to help. I have no choice but to take the AirPods Pro gen 2 back to the Apple Store for a refund as the problem is just to difficult and stressful to live with, I just hope I done have problems at the store doing so.

Hi DIESEL-X,

For help with your AirPods connection, have you tested a reset of your AirPods since noticing the issue? If not, check out the steps below found in the article here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

"You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
  4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
    • If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
    • If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.

5. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.

6. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

AirPods charging cases7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

Also, you can test the connection with any other device to further isolate and see if there's anything you need to update or check on the Smart TV.

As mentioned in the last article shared, if the issue remains contact Apple directly to report it and have them further assist.
