Capture Mini Dv

Need help. Im trying to capture footage from a Mini DV. I have all of the adapters to go from firewire to thunderbolt, but my Mac still won't recognize the camcorder. It's a Samsung Camcorder SCD5000.

How to Capture MiniDV to FCPX on MacBook Pro M1 Max (with Sony Handycam HDR-HC3) - Camera not recognized I never had an issue importing MiniDV footage onto my old iMac via a iLink DV to firewire cable. But now that I've upgraded to the MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max, I have yet to find a cable hookup that allows Final Cut Pro X to recognize the camera. I've tried: 1) DV to USB-A (cable for DCR-TRV75E) 2) HDMI to USB-C 3) DV to Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3/USB-C Does anyone know how I can get FCPX to recognize the camera or, if not, any converter box that would work with the Sony Handycam HDR-HC3 to get decent quality transfers from the MiniDV tapes. Transferring video from old camcorder but not recognised by MacBook Pro I have an old Panasonic camcorder bought around 2001 and want to get the footage onto my Mac so I can edit it and have digital copies, but my Mac doesn't recognise it. I contacted Panasonic to see if I could get a driver but was only one available for Windows not Mac. I used to connect it to my previous laptop, it took a lifetime to transfer and process, then I had one chance to save to DVD before disconnecting and having to do it all again. So, does anyone know what I need now to get it to recognise it please? Thank you

This camcorder uses Firewire. Thunderbolt to Firewire adapters exist from Apple that support Firewire 800 (IEEE 1394b) which can be linked to USB-C as well:

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple for 2016 and newer Macs links to

Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple and then you need IEEE 1394b to your camera adapter which typically is IEEE 1394a 4 pin.

You could contact Samsung to see if they have a USB-C adapter for their camera. Daisy chaining like I describe can work, but it isn't ideal as power may not be sufficient depending on the camera and the computer.
