Apple TV App on Samsung TV Doesn't Remember My Place

It doesn't remember where I stopped watching (Samsung QTQ90). If I stop watching in the middle of a series episode, when I return it either skips to the next episode, or goes back to the beginning of the episode I've been watching. With movies, it just goes back to the beginning. I don't need to turn the TV off or even quit the app for this to happen. If I pause more than a few minutes, it jumps back to the main series menu, and starts the episode over.


This has been going on as long as I've owned this TV, about a year. It was mildly annoying when the Apple TV+ subscription was free, but now that I'm paying for it, it's really unacceptable. This is the only streaming service that requires me to remember or write down the timecode whenever I pause, or waste time fast-forwarding to find where I left off.


My TV's software is up to date, as far as I can tell. And I don't have this problem if I watch on other devices. It looks like it's specific to the Samsung version of the app. Is it just me, or is anybody else having this problem?

At this time, I would suggest to contact an expert from the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (chat/​email/​callback).

I spoke to Apple Support, and the problem appears to be fixed (so far). They had me reset the TV, which I have done MANY, MANY times before. This time though, it gave me a "Loading..." message when I started the Apple TV app. After a few minutes, the app finally launched, and now it's showing progress bars on shows I've started watching. I've never seen a progress bar on the main menu screen before. Looks like Apple updated their Samsung app recently, and the reset forced the app to update itself.


If you're having this problem and haven't done it recently, I recommend doing a reset on your TV – press the power button to turn the TV off, and keep pressing until the TV turns back on.
