Unable to scan on a Brother MFC-L3770CDW Via AirPrint
I have a L3770CDW which Brother does not offer a driver for, instead using Apple's universal AirPrint driver. I've seen a few issues with this under Ventura:
- If already added, the scan functionality will cease to work after a few hours. When opening the scanner app in Settings, the app will show "Waiting for scanner". After what I assume is a timeout, it will show the message "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)".
- When removing and re-adding it, it exhibits different behavior seemingly at random:
- It will show up in the printer list with a Kind of "Bonjour". It should be "Bonjour Multifunction".
- It will show up but the driver ("Use:") will be "Generic PCL Printer" or it will not find an appropriate driver and show "Select Software", for which there is none.
- If the printer is already added and the scanner stops working, attempting to add a new printer will find the printer with a Kind of "Bonjour Scanner". Adding this as a second device, the scanner works (at least temporarily).
- It won't find the printer at all (a reboot of the Mac resolves this).
3. Booting to Safe Mode or resetting the Print System does not resolve the issue.
4. *Sometimes* rebooting the Mac and re-adding the printer is successful, though issue #1 will occur again.
Restarting the printer/router does not resolve the issue. Both the printer and the MacBook are using the same wireless network.
The "Brother iPrint&Scan" software always works (this software does not need the printer to be added to System Settings), though I'd rather not use this.
