HDMI signal flickering on M1 macs.

I support multiple AV installations. We use Crestron HDMI to HDBaset transmitters to connect to some of the projectors. Recently, multiple users have come to us with Apple Silicon MacBook Pros that will not send video signal when they plug in to the systems. The screen on their laptop starts flickering on and of about once a second until it is unplugged. The machines behave like they are constantly being plugged and unplugged from an external display. I've tested all the cables and adapters (using the official Apple USB-c to HDMI adapters) on both Intel macs and windows PCs, they all work. Also the Apple Silicon Macs in question work when attached directly to a display.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Hey there Generic_,

While this may be something for which you'll need to reach out to the manufacturers of those projectors to check for compatibility, we'd like to help by ruling out some other possible causes, along with learning more about what's happening:

If you test connecting your Mac to a different display other than the projector you mentioned, what occurs?
If the same Mac you're using did work in the past with the same projector, when did this start?
Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
Since you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 13.3. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.
