Jerky streaming video from Macbook Air M2 to HDMI

I have a MacBook Air (M2, 2022) running OS 12.6, purchased fall 2022. When I attempt to display streaming video on a TV (Insignia brand) by running a cable from the USB3 jack on the Mac to the HCMI input on the TV, the display is jerky, i.e., it freezes for a second or so, then jumps ahead, on and on. This happens on the TV screen and on both the TV screen and the Macbook screen if I do mirroring. Static displays, e.g., text, webpages, display properly on the TV, and there is no problem with streaming video just using the Macbook (i.e., no HDMI connection). I've tried may different screen resolutions on the TV without improvement. Suggestions?
