iPhone microphone mute isn't actually muted

iPhone 14 Pro running 16.3.1.

I call my boss to listen in on a meeting, (iphone to iphone), and place myself on mute.

I leave the office, go to lunch, and when I return, I talk to my coworker. I get chided from the meeting to mute myself.

Incredulously, I look at the phone and the mute button is clearly lit up. So I tap, it goes dark, I hear the audible chime signifying "mic enabled", and then again I press the mic button so it lights up white to reenable the mute.

I start talking "Hello Hello Can you hear me?" and I get loud and clear response "Yes we can hear you!"

I'm not sure what kind of support can be provided for this issue, but I guess this is just to make you aware that the mute button didn't work on a basic phone call.

Hello Archietect,

Since the mute button is part of the iOS of your iPhone, we like to see if restarting your iPhone helps resolve this: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Also, since iOS 16.4 was recently released, make sure your iPhone is up to date. You can find which version your iPhone is on by going to Settings > General > About. Here’s how to update if needed: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.
