Mute button not silencing microphone on calls with 18.1.1

If the mute button is pressed immediately after placing a call, the mute button will show muted but the microphone will not be silenced. Call recipients can still hear the caller.

I have replicated this issue on 3 different devices. It happens when calling iPhone to iPhone as well as when calling in to a conference bridge. All devices were running 18.1.1. iPhones tested were a 12 mini, 13, and 14 pro.

I have been experiencing the same issue with my 15 pro max. This typically happens when I'm on calls for work, in which case I do usually mute as soon as the call starts. I will have to test out giving it a few seconds before muting to see if that helps. This is a dangerous defect :(

Experiencing same issue with my 12 Pro model. iOS 18.1.1.

First realized this on a work call when I said something thinking I was muted but was not. This is a HUGE issue. Have also duplicated iphone to iphone. Only happens when immediately muting after hitting the call button. Once I unmute/mute after the connection is made it seems to work. Can't really rely on that though.
