Apple Music not connecting to Airplay device

I've just updated Monterey with the latest security updates ver 12.6.4, as a result I can no longer connect to my Airplay speakers from Apple Music. When I choose the Airplay icon in Music it still plays through the internal speakers. I then have to go to the sound prefs in the menu bar and select Airplay from there. Previously they worked independently of each other, meaning that if I wanted to hear something on my mac i would just have to turn the volume down In Music app. Anyone know how to fix this or having the same issue?

Hi there,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some questions about AirPlay, and we're happy to help. When streaming audio with AirPlay, be sure to use the steps here:

1. Make sure that your Mac and speaker are on the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
2. Open Apple Music on your Mac.
3. To the right of the volume slider in Apple Music, click AirPlay .
4. Click each speaker or TV that you want to play the current audio to.

If you don't see the AirPlay icon  or if you want to stream audio from a different app:
1. On your Mac, select Control Center  in the menu bar.
2. Click AirPlay  under Sound.
3. Select a speaker that you want to play the current audio to.
You can't use AirPlay to stream audio to multiple speakers from the menu bar on a Mac.

See more about those steps here: Use AirPlay to stream audio - Apple Support

If those steps don't help, let us know if this issue is only happening in Apple Music, and what speakers you're using for AirPlay. We'll go from there.

Thanks.

Shutting down and restarting makes no difference. I must explain that I am connecting to Volumio on a raspberry Pi that is then connected to my amp and speakers. The issue is not with Volumio it is with how Apple Music is working with the OS. Everything was working fine before the OS update. It is most definitely a software issue. I have dowloaded an alternative music app and I can play music over Airplay without having to change the sound settings on my iMac.

Thanks

Sorry, I already know how to use Airplay and up until recently it was working fine. I'm going to have to explain again to make my problem clearer.

Before the resent Monterey security update I was able to do the following;

Previously I could open Apple Music and select Airplay from the Menu to the right of the app and the music would play through my speakers.

While this was happening I was still able to hear other sounds like video from Youtube or FaceTime or other sounds through my desktop speakers.

Now if I select the Airplay icon in Apple Music the sound still plays through the internal speakers until I go to the finder menu and choose Airplay from there. So now it's either a choice of all sound through Airplay or all sound through internal speakers and not Music through Airplay and all other sounds through internal speakers.

Nothing has changed with my setup between my speakers and my iMac except the recent OS update, so it's an issue with Apple Music and OS Monterey.

Thanks for the additional information regarding your AirPlay issue.

The next step is to restart both your Mac and speakers at the same time. This simple step can resolve issues like this by resetting their connection to each other.

Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

If still having the issue after restarting the devices, then please let us know if this issue is only happening in Apple Music, and which speakers you're using for AirPlay(Make and model). We appreciate this info in advance.

Take care.
