iPhone 12 hotspot stuck on 2.4Ghz

I have an iPhone 12 64GB and the 5GHz personal hotspot stopped working a few months back.

The "Maximize Compatibility" switch doesn't seem to do anything, it always shows up as a 2.4GHz network on my other devices.

I have used it previously on my laptop and Meta Quest 2 and the 5Ghz band was working fine.

After the iOS 16.2 update it stopped working. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Hello SnarkyGoblin092,

For help with your Hotspot we recommend following the steps below and refer to the article titled, If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular), for more troubleshooting steps.

"Use these steps first

Try connecting again after each step.

  1. Check that Personal Hotspot is turned on in Settings > Personal Hotspot. If you can't find or turn on Personal Hotspot, check that your wireless carrier enabled it and that your wireless plan supports it.
  2. Restart the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot and the other device that needs to connect to Personal Hotspot.
  3. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.
  4. On the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings."
