Share Location in FindMy w/person who has Multiple Phone Numbers

I had misplaced my phone yesterday and called my contact that I share my location with to ask her where my phone is. She was unable to see my phone, not through messages, and not in FindMy.

I got my phone back today and upon looking at everything, privacy s& security my location is on, share my is on, in FindMy it says she can see my location, under messages and under her contract it says I’m sharing my location with her. In the past she was always able to see my location.

Looking at her contact info, she has several phone numbers, work, mobile, home, other.. I’m not sure how it would’ve changed because I have not edited her contact info but I realized her office # is stared (favorited- in favorites), but that # is a landline, it needs to be sharing location with her mobile/cell#.

Is this what’s causing the problem?

There isn’t anywhere that I can tell and I looked to find out what specific number(s) my location is being shared with.

Am I missing something?

Can someone help me with this?

Hello togetherthereishope,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. The incorrect phone number that you mentioned is possibly part of the issue. When you check your Contacts app for this contact, are there multiple listings for them? Or are all of their numbers on the same contact card? To avoid confusion, if you have multiple contact cards for this person, you may want to consolidate them in to one by editing one of the contacts. The following is from Edit contacts on iPhone - Apple Support.

"In the Contacts app , assign a photo to a contact, add a pronunciation, change a label, add a birthday, and more to your contacts.

  1. Tap a contact, then tap Edit.
  2. Enter or update their contact information.
  3. When you’re finished, tap Done."

Then, share your location using this guidance from Find people and share your location with Find My - Apple Support.

"Share with people

  1. Open the Find My app and select the People tab.
  2. Tap the Add button .
  3. Select Share My Location.
  4. Enter the name or phone number of the person that you want to share your location with.
  5. Select Send.
  6. Choose to share your location for One Hour, Until End of Day, or Share Indefinitely."

If you use multiple devices, it may also be helpful to make sure that your location is being shared from the right device. That is mentioned in the following section of the article above.

"Change your sharing device

To change the device that you're sharing your location from, open Find My on the device from which you want to share. Select the Me tab, then choose Use this [device] as My Location."

Kind regards.
