Spouse location in Find My still, but not in iMessage anymore

We've shared our locations mutually for years and nothing has changed. Other family members and a friend with sharing enabled still show their location in both Find My and in iMessage apps, and the map pops up in iMessage right away for them when I hit info. But recently for only my spouse it does not show in iMessage, but is still fine in Find My. Only for them, and we have both tried in both apps turning the sharing on and off again, resetting devices, and other tips from various other threads out here but no joy on any of them. Just weird. She can still see me on both. Settings all correct. When I hit info in iMessage for her it shows a "Request Location" link, which sends her a small graphic (see image attached) but that icon in her iMessage does absolutely nothing when she taps it. I do get a notice in the thread when she turns sharing on and off again manually , but it doesn't fix the issue.
