Why do the Files app favorites (It should be favourites of course) come and go randomly? Sometimes they show up; sometimes they don’t. Very unreliable!
This applies to both iOS and iPadOS. Favorites in the Finder app of MacOS don’t seem to be impacted.

This problem continues with me. I've been on chat and the phone with Apple support, and they have never actually acknowledged that this is a known issue, and consequently they have no fix, even though it's been escalated to senior support personal.
I'm hoping iOS / iPadOS 17 will fix this, but I'm not very confident that it will.

I really wonder if anyone at Apple pays any attention to users even when we take the time to submit reports. This particular bug has existed going back to the previous iOS and iPadOS versions.
This happens to me too, both on the iPhone and on two iPads, since the early betas of iOS 16.
Look at the Recent Files tab; on my devices, when Favorites disappear, it shows files from 2019 as "Recent", and it sort of looks as if it is "reindexing" them. When this process is finished, Recent Files show the correct entries and Favorites appear back for a short time; then, something triggers the process again, and Favorites go away.
I think we should file a bug report and hope it gets fixed in iOS 17.
This is a strange reply. Do you use Apple products or just post nonsense?
The Favourites section of the Files app has existed for numerous generations of the OS on all platforms. As mentioned in my original post, the problem is that sometimes it disappears, which is clearly one of many bugs that continue to plague Apple's software.
On iOS 15, I believe it didn't happen to me; I noticed it on iOS 16 because I heavily rely on that section, having quite a deep hierarchy of folders in iCloud.
I thought it was only a problem of the betas, so I put up with it for months until October, but… still here, at a month from the announcement of iOS 17 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve been dealing for months with his same issue as described, in both iOS and iPadOS, and with each point release I wonder why it isn’t fixed. It is a major bug that impacts my work. “Recents” are from five years ago, Deleted files show nothing, and my file “Favorites” disappear and then reappear totally at random.
I would much rather see this core functionality work correctly than have more new glitzy features added to the OS. iOS and iPadOS are no longer reliable, and this is definitely not as it should be.
For me, this is not a feature request, it is a bug that happened to me as recently as yesterday, and I’m experiencing the issue on both of my iPads, and on my iPhone. All of my devices are set to automatically update iOS, and I have been experiencing the issue for weeks. I had assumed that I was doing something wrong until I searched the forums and realized that it appears to be a widespread issue. I’m hoping to get acknowledgement of the issue so it can be fixed. Is there a current forum that has recent information on the issue? Thanks for your help.
