Finder Favorites Disappear

I found this question answered here :

great input from @leroydouglas - I tried everything - to no avail.

I am using Ventura 13.2 - so life might be different now - but everything under Ventura was fine until a few days ago when I ran the latest update.

eg I don't have a com.apple.finder.plist on my computer anywhere!

also - I don't seem to be able to drag folder from my finder to build a new list of favorites.

so wondering if there is something more fundamental that has changed?

one added piece of info I did install

thinking it might have been the culprit - i uninstalled and rebooted - but problem remains.

Hover the cursor to the right of the word Favorites until you see the >. Click it.

As I continued to look and troubleshoot found this ...

Customise the Finder toolbars on Mac - Apple Support (NZ)

and it says to drag and drop I should use press command key at same time. I really dont recall ever having to do that - but as I type am using trackpad - but I usually use a Magic Mouse. Holding command to drag and drop with a trackpad is unwieldily. ill keep digging.

good thought, thankyou - but no - the favorites are exposed - with the presets that include 'Applications' - its all the ones that I added myself that are gone. In finder - settings - sidebar you can choose from a pre made list what you want to show and what you don't want to show - even some of my choices there had disappeared, but the main problems are folders 5 levels down that I like to keep a view of that disappeared.

Just been through and added some of them back to see what happens.
