Camera stopped to work on Big Sur's Safari

Hi all.

I have here Big Sur 11.7.3 with Safari 16.3 and I use a Logitech C270 HD camera on my system.

On Friday the camera worked with my Safari on a meeting using Google Meet. Perfectly. After the lunch, on other meeting, the camera stopped to work saying CAMERA FAILS. So, no more video on my meeting. The MIC from the camera is working.

If I use other browsers like Chrome and Firefox, everything is perfect. I tried to set fixed ALLOW on Safari for MIC and CAMERA just to not ask but same fail message when using the camera for video. Tried to change de USB port too, but same error.

I don't did any kind of installs, updates, the camera just stopped to work after the lunch.

What can I do? Thanks

Hello Marcello_Cruz,

We would like to see how we can help you with using your external camera with your Mac. Do you have any software from Logitech installed on the Mac? If so, are their any updates avaiable? Let's start by restarting the Mac and testing to see if the issue persists. Follow the steps in this link to restart: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

"Restart your Mac

  • On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Restart.
  • If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”

Get back to us with these details so that we have a better understanding of the issue, and we can go from there.

Cheers!

Hi Marcello_Cruz,

As this behavior is impacting only Safari, one possible cause would be an extension or plug-in that is preventing the camera access.

Follow the steps from If Safari on Mac doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected to reload Safari while holding the Shift key, check current extensions, and test in a private window.

Then, if necessary, use the process in How to use safe mode on your Mac to see if this continues in safe mode, and take the recommended actions based on the results of that test.

Regards.

Marcello_Cruz,

Thanks for trying that out.

Be sure to try checking for any updates for the software used, including in System Preferences > Software Update, and within any affected third-party apps that may have their own updaters.

As it didn't happen in the other account, a possible cause of the issue may be login items. This page can help with removing these: Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
2. Click your account name below Current User, then click Login Items at the top of the window.
Make a list of the login items—you’ll need to remember them later.
3. Select all of the login items, then click the Remove button .
4. Choose Apple menu > Restart.
5. If this solves the problem, open Users & Groups preferences again, add the login items one at a time, and restart your Mac after adding each one.
When the problem occurs again, follow the steps above to remove only the last login item you added.

Cheers.

No updates. The camera stopped to work during the working day on Safari. In the morning worked, after the lunch stopped. Only with Safari. Tried to clean all kinds of configs, set ALLOW to not ASK too. And nothing. Same behaviour. Only the MIC icon appears on the top filed of Safari. Tried Chrome, Firefox, Brave and Edge. Worked on all browsers. Worked with Photo Booth too. I restarted and shut down the computer a lot of times during this days. No changes. So now I'm using Edge to work cause it looks more stable and not bugged like Safari.
