Optimized battery charging does not work in Ventura 13.2.1

Same problem here, although I can't be sure it started exactly with the 13.2.1 update. My 14" M1 MBP is on power adapter 99.9% of the time. It used to be that if I used it on battery briefly, it would take just a few days back on power adapter to return to the 80% limit. But now it has been charging to 100% for about 6 weeks. During that time it was on battery only for a couple of hours as it was transported between locations.

The algorithm seems far too hesitant. I wish Apple would give us some manual control over this. This optimized charging feature was a significant reason why I bought a laptop despite knowing that it would be rarely used on battery. My previous MBP suffered a swollen battery after only about 50 charging cycles, presumably due to the fact that it was plugged in almost all the time.

I've tried some 3rd-party utilities but they don't seem to work properly in clamshell mode, which is what I'm in almost all the time.

Hoping the 13.3 update which I just installed a couple of days ago will fix this...

The solution— Give it 3 weeks and report back your experience then. Full stop.

You do not have to micro-manage the battery. Let the software work for you.

the rule of thumb— if you are near the mains leave it plugged in,if you need the portability then run on battery only.

Can anyone else confirm that's working again after 13.2.1? I've been on power adapter 24/7 for 3 weeks now since that update, and it still isn't working. Stays charged to 100%. I have a support ticket open and have sent system logs to Apple so we'll see what comes of that ...

So Apple got back to me and told me that their engineers say it's behaving as expected, which I find a little hard to believe. If the feature doesn't kick in after 3 months on the charger then what good is it?

Could the original poster MEDGURU kindly confirm that it's working again in Ventura 13.3.1? (Also kindly confirm that when you said it's fixed in "iOS 13.3" you meant Ventura 13.3.1? I assumed that was a typo since this thread is about MacOS not iOS.)

I have this problem on 13.4.1. I was searching for answers and found this thread which says it was fixed in 13.2.1. Perhaps it's back? It used to automatically go back to 80% when I returned to battery for several weeks. Now it never goes below 100% on power.

I'm having the same problem with a MacBook Air on Ventura.

If the feature exists it probably means it's not recommended to have the machine at 100% for months.

Would contacting support serve as a way to report this issue to the devs?

Sorry for the double post but it doesn't seem to let me ammend this to my previous reply.

I believe that if the feature is not working it might be related to the location services settings. When I went to check them I had 22 locations registered, I cleared the cache and will report back a month later to see if the issue is resolved

resolved after i dischrge by 79% . Working hold 80% mode.

Optimised battery charging does not work in Ventura 13.5.2
