Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82) - What is the Optimised Battery Charging algorithm (and is it better switched off)

Typically I leave my PC plugged in but switch it off at night. Regularly the weird behaviour as shown below occurs. From 100% charged the PC discharges the battery even though it is plugged in! Then when I move the PC to another room it decides to charge the battery to full again. I thought discharge/recharge cycles wear out the battery. Would I be better switching Optimised Battery Charging off and leaving the battery at 100%.

Can you please get one of the engineers that developed this charge algorithm to explain why charging between 84% and 100% every day is better? Any why it discharges while plugged in?

I want the charger to not discharge while plugged in, only charge up to 80% unless I select the Charge to 100% Now menu item.

if you unplug and replug it in can force it to charge yes...

You do not have to micro-manage the battery charging or the health. Let the software work for you. It learns as it goes.

Battery health is not static, it is dynamic. It is detremental to long term battery health to lock it at say your

"only charge up to 80% ..."

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.

That's it, forget about it.

I specifically asked for a response from one of the charging developers, not a web developer.

Unfortunately it seems 'big brother' has removed your imperious post.

I guess you have some insider knowledge as to the CVs of every subscriber or of the policy excluding Apple developers. I don’t so I didn’t know that. If you could let me know if it is Apple policy to exclude their developers from posting then I will not bother asking technology questions in future.

It is common industry practice for developers to scan these type of boards for interesting questions.

Apple Support has not proven very helpful in the past and I was trying to bypass their layers of support to get straight to a simple answer.

I’m not sure why you feel my reply was imperious. Or who big brother is. But both please accept my apologies. It was not my intension to dominate, just to limit the amount of noise in a publicly accessible forum.

Question was " Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82) - What is the Optimised Battery Charging algorithm (and is it better switched off) "

The " algorithm " is hard coded right into the Operating System by Apple

This is No Direct method for the User ( you or me ) to switch it On or OFF.

We can only enable some or all of the setting outlined by previous Contributor
