identifying what folder(s) a random photo might be in

if I am viewing a random photo in apple photos, and I ask myself "what folder(s) might this photo be in?", I don't see a way to determine that. I have to back out, look through folders, and then find it. Thoughts?

Pictures can be in several albums at once, so there's not exactly a one album that it's in. And, sadly, there isn't any simple way to find what albums a picture is listed in.

You can find out which pictures aren't in any albums at all by using a "Smart Folder:"

That doesn't exactly address your question, unless your random picture is an orphan.

To be able to do just what you suggest, I have gone through each of my albums, selected all, and added the album name as a keyword to all the pictures in that album. So when I select a picture and look at its info window, I can see all the album(s) it's in.

It's not so hard-- you click and copy the album's name, then select all, and paste into the keyword field. Then go to the next. Do a few a day. That's the best method I've found.

..KevininMad..

Probably a means to that end could be to View items as folders, in Finder.

Then those are less hidden. They're less likely to be lost, if you can trace

their path. Nested folders can be helpful, or the devils delight, if too much.

[Some good ideas are together in an article, linked from my bookmarks..

& added below general ones I've used. And my systems are not orderly.]

And, maybe use 'Go To Folder' in Mac library, an idea usefulness exceeds

any one purpose; so a decided effort might be needed for better success.

Find the photos library may not be hard, but moved or renamed items once

outside of their main path, can be anything but easy at times.

"To get there faster, open Finder and click “Go” in the menu bar, then

select “Go to Folder” in menu that pops up. In the window that opens

type ~/Pictures, then click “Go” ..again."

This article supports a few means to locate images, folders, documents.

..Examples may be found in Apple Help menu; I suspect, more randomly.
