iPod Disabled - Was in DFU mode, can't get back to DFU mode

I don't know the passcode to an old iPod (4th gen). I tried different passcodes too many times and now the screen says, "iPod is disabled connect to iTunes". I know I have to put into recovery mode and reset it to factory settings, which will delte all the data now. I am okay with that.

I followed the steps to get it into recovery mode (I got the expected iTunes logo on the iPod screen and iTunes detected it in recovery mode, but why I try to retore it I get the error below. I've tried the steps suggested in the "More info" link, but the same error keeps coming back. What else can I try? I just want to restore it so I can recycle it.

Thanks for your help.

Greetings daves70,

Since you are getting errors when trying to restore your iPod, the best place to start is here:

"Try these steps first

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, make sure your Mac is up to date. If you have a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or a PC, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
  2. If your device couldn't be restored and you get a message that "an unknown error occurred [error number]," use these steps. " iOS update and restore errors

Be sure to visit the link to learn more in-depth details.

We hope this helps so you can get back into the iPod.

Best wishes.
