Double sided printing on Ventura

Ventura prints double sided even though single sided is selected in the print driver. I have observed this while printing to a Ricoh multi function printer (using Ricoh's Postscript print driver) and a Kyocera printer (using Kyocera's print driver). I went into CUPS, selected the printer and set it for single sided as a default but it still does double sided. I set a profile with duplex turned off but even though duplex is turned off, it still prints double sided. if I toggle duplex on, then back off before I print, it prints single sided. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hello bplissken,

Since the behavior you're experiencing does not appear to be isolated to one app we recommend testing the behavior in safe mode.

"Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed."

Here's how: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

We hope this helps!

Best regards.

I experienced the exact same issue after upgrading to Ventura, on both my HP 8620 and HP 9015 printers. They print double-sided when I set double-sided printing to "off" in the print dialogue. But when I toggle that from off to on to off, they print single-sided. This happens regardless of the app from which I am printing (Word, Excel, Preview, Safari, etc.).

Agreeing with Bplissken who wrote about this annoying problem back in February 2023. I followed instructions online to change the default in Terminal, but although it says the default is single-sided, when i go to print anything, it shows up as two-sided in the Print window, and i don't always remember to turn that to OFF! Please has anyone found a work-around? When will Apple correct this error please?
