Hello gayle Stephens,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. If you're syncing your contacts with iCloud, try the following steps to see if those specific contacts can be deleted:

1.) Visit the iCloud website here: iCloud - Apple

2.) Sign in with your Apple ID & password.

3.) Select Contacts.

4.) Locate the contacts you wish to delete and delete them.

If you're syncing your contacts with a third-party email account such as Google, then you can try the following steps to see if it helps out:

1.) Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.

2.) Tap on Gmail.

3.) Disable Contacts.

4.) Wait a few moments and enable Contacts again.

5.) Try to delete the contacts again if they repopulate.

If you confirm that your contacts were indeed syncing with iCloud and they continue to return, even after deleting them from the iCloud website, please reach out to Apple Support. They might have to investigate this issue further with you. You can reach them here: Get Support
