Apple doesn't care about ibooks author users

Like many other people I have been using ibooks author for my own use and have had no problems as it is easy to use. Apple no longer support ibooks author and as my apple computers are coming to the end of their excellent shelf life if I buy a new imac then I cannot use ibooks author and will lose access to my lifelong work.

Apple says that Pages will do the same job but as we all know that is simply not true. I have raised this several times with the support section but to be honest they are not interested and pan me off by telling me that I want in Pages will be along shortly in an update. Well two years is a long time to wait for an update.

Apple have let me and many others down and they just do not seem to care. All my tech stuff is Apple but as long as I keep buying their products they are quite happy but still not willing to help.

Has anyone migrated their ibooks author files successfully to another program? I would be interested to know as would many others. I am currently looking at Quarkxpress and indesign but that is a lot of money and retraining only to find out that the software is not compatble.
