Attachments showing up as winmail.dat files in Mail

I am having an unusual issue that I can't seem to figure out with my new MacBook Pro. If I email a file as an attachment from my work computer using Outlook(Window 10 PC) to my home computer, the attachments come through as a "win mail.dat" file, regardless of the original file type (Excel, Word, PDF, etc.). Oddly, if I retrieve the file from my iPad or iPhone, the attachments are correct, the issue only happens on my new MacBook Pro (M1 max, Ventura 13.2). Further, this only happens if I use my verizon.net email account at home. Using my me.com home account the files come through just fine on all three devices. This was not an issue with may previous MacBook, so I'm puzzled as to what might be causing the issue. I use the Mail app on all of my Apple devices.

I've verified that Outlook on my PC is not trying to send the files as RTF. I've tried both HTML as well as plain text with the same results, the attachments come through as "win mail.dat" and cannot be opened on the MacBook. They work fine in either format on the IOS devices.

The obvious solution here is to just use the me.com account, but I'd really like to resolve this since my verizon account is my primary account for email.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
