Airplay troubleshooting

Hello all

I would love some help with a problem I am having with Airplay.

I find that very often - playing a song from Apple Music, with my Airplay speakers selected - after a moment or two - playback stops and I get an error icon in place of the Airplay icon.

See attached screenshot

Sometimes a reboot does the trick - but it often reoccurs the next day.

Setup is :

  • MacMini - wired ethernet
  • KEF LSX II Speakers - on wired ethernet.
  • They are both on the same switch
  • Unifi Network
  • Multicast DNS switched on on the router
  • I don't seem to get this issue when playing music through my iPhone
  • I get the same issue if I use other apps on my Mac with Airplay (so it is not Apple Music related)
  • I don't seem to get the issue if I use my MacBook Pro (though I have only tried it a couple of times)

I had the same issue before with a pair of HomePods. In fact, one of the reasons I bought the KEF speakers was because they can be wired. I thought WiFi could be the issue.

Any help much appreciated

Andrew

Thanks for reaching out Andrew Davies,

It sounds like you're having some issues with AirPlay staying connected. We can help.

From what you've shared it looks like you've narrowed things down to where the next thing to test is the Wi-Fi connection. Check out these steps next: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference.

If you find the behavior continues after that, you can Contact Apple for support and service.

Hope that helps.

Take care.
