Trash only empties 50-60 files at a time

I use my machines for my photography business and since the update, when culling through my images and sending them to the trash to be removed, if i have a more than 50 or so files in the trash, sometimes in the region of 4000 images or files (raw/jpg/xmp), emptying the trash only removes 50-60 images at a time.

I use an external SSD to process all my images

this is only started happening since i updated to ventura and the same happens between my macbook pro m1 16" and also my m1 mac mini

I have spoken to someone on apple chat before and they have asked me to reinstall ventura and this has made no change.

since this issue i have had to start using terminal to empty the trash using sudo rm -rf and this is not ideal for the amount of files im dealing with

Well perhaps I may have missed understanding " I use an external SSD to process all my images " and sorry about that 😔.

Initial suggestion, as this Drive is being used Exclusively ? on Apple Computers would to format the drive in a Native Apple Drive format.

That would be HFS ( Journaled ) with GUID Partition Map - usually good for Large Multi-Media files which these image files would qualify as

Or the Newer APFS / GUID drive format.

It is not clear to me, what the Images were Originally located.

Are the images located on the Internal Drive of this computer when move to Trash ?

Are the images located on an External Drive when move to Trash ?

If on an External Drive, exactly how if the External Drive attached to the computer ?

Is the External Drive connect Directly attached, connect via USB Hub or is this a Networked Drive setup ?

In what Drive Format is the External Drive formatted ?

As stated, i process all my images from an external ssd drive connected directly through a usbc-usbc cable that it came with and not the internal drive.

the drive is exfat formatted
