Problem logging into alternate Apple ID for Messages/Facetime on iOS

I'm having a problem similar to this older thread from last year:


iMessage or FaceTime will not allow me to… - Apple Community


This thread doesn't indicate a resolution or if anyone solved the problem. I am having the exact same problem on an iPhone 13 Pro, latest iOS, all updated:


"I am trying to change the Apple ID to a different Apple ID account in iMessage or FaceTime... but everytime I click on the Settings>Messages>Send&Receive> Apple ID>Sign Out> Use your Apple ID for iMessage> USE OTHER APPLE ID...It automatically reverts to the original Apple ID that was signed onto the device. It will not give me a new prompt to submit a different Apple ID and password."


Has anyone solved this problem or can suggest a resolution short of trying to reset the device which I really don't want to do?

You've walked through great steps to help sign in to a different Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime. To confirm, have you signed out of both features before attempting to sign in with the different Apple ID for iMessage? If not, this can be a helpful tip in reaching a resolution. In addition to that step, restarting is another great troubleshooting step. While simple, restarting can help resolve many issues.


  1. "Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo."

The short answer is: yes, I've tried all that:


1 - Logging out of iMessage and FaceTime on the device and then signing in again (with or without a restart after logging out): no effect

2 - Restarting the device: no effect

3 - Latest OS: yes, all with the latest OS


Nothing works. I have other iPhones where this works -- it is one device (the iPhone 13 Pro in question) where nothing works and I cannot log into a different Apple ID for iMessage and/or FaceTime.
