bose speakers not working with NEW Mac Studio
Studio has a headphone jack, but the option to use the speakers does not show up in my preferences/sound settings. I also have no control over the volume from my keyboard.

try SMC reset, yours is an Apple-silicon Mac
Make sure that your Mac is plugged into power. Then either restart it or shut it down and turn it on again. No other steps are necessary for Mac computers with Apple silicon.

Well, these speakers have worked with every other Mac I've owned since I got them, and that is about 3 desktops. So I didn't know why this should be different, but I guess it is. Thank you for clearing that up.
That's no a [bare] speaker, its a speaker-Amp system. You should be able to run that from your Mac headphone output.
However, on modern Macs you will need to select it in
System preferences > sound
Yeah, but that's my problem--I connected the speakers, but they did not show up in the Sound preferences. Someone else said something about restarting a couple of times. Do you think that would work, Grant?
Headphone jack has always been for headphones (ONLY).
Headphone jack has never supported speakers directly, unless you introduce an Amplifier, even a very modest one.
plain speakers or included amplifier?
what model?
Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia speaker system. Thanks for for your assistance
i think there is a bug mine do not work , even when i use headphones it does not work , i will pick up a C to phone jack and see if that works .
jim
The headphone jack is semi-mechanical. Sometimes you have to plug and unplug a few -- even more than a few --times before it works.
Thanks!
i tried that about 10 times no work. i went to apple store and bought c-to phone jack. 12.95 and it works fine
