Inability to Send/Recieve Text Messages from Android Phones

I recently upgraded to an IPhone 14+ from my IPhone SE (2nd gen) and I switched carriers from T-Mobile to AT&T. I have transferred the phone number on the SIM card of my IPhone SE 2nd gen to my new IPhone 14+. Since that change I have been unable to send and/or receive text messages from android phones. The change has also affected group messages that I’m in that include android users by making it so I only recieve messages from those in my ICloud family. In those groups chats I no longer see other text messages from other iPhone users that are outside of my ICloud Family sharing group as well. I’ve tried the common solutions already like full resetting my network settings, toggling airplane mode and the group messaging, MMS and SMS settings off and on again, shutting the phone down, and calling my current carrier (AT&T), but no dice. Is there any other in depth solutions that I’m missing? Please help!

Hey there CryptChill,

You've tried some great steps, including contacting your carrier! While you may need to contact them again, we wanted to rule out some other possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand the issue occurring:

  1. When did this first start?
  2. Are you still able to send/receive SMS(green) text messages to Android users if you disable iMessage?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  4. As you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

Hey CryptChill,

That's great that you can get some of these messages again. What happens if you start a new group conversation that includes Android users? Does the same happen there? If not, the issue with the current conversations may be an ongoing result of the previous problem. If so, delete those conversations and start new ones using the guidance from Send a group text message on your iPhone or iPad.

All the best.

I'd love to answer your questions. Although, I recently received help from AT&T this month and got direct SMS messages working again with android phones. I am still experiencing issues with group messages that include android phones though.

  1. This problem started to occur on December 17th, 2022 the day that I opened the sealed box to my iPhone 14 plus and set up the phone.
  2. I am still able to receive direct SMS messages or green bubble messages from android phones (one on one messages), but again when they are included in any group message with me on the messages application installed by default on all iPhones, I am unable to see most of the messages sent by people in the group chat even if they are using an apple device and I'm unable to see all android messages that are sent normally to everyone else's phone. I currently have iMessage turned on in settings.
  3. I have restarted my phone many times to no avail.
  4. Currently, my iPhone 14 plus is completely up to date. I have the IOS version 16.3 currently installed on my iPhone 14 plus. I installed it today (Jan 28, 2023).

*Another problem that I realized is occurring is that I can't receive images sent to me by android phones even in direct messages with them one on one.
