If I cancel my music subscription do I lose all my songs too?

One time I canceled my subscription for $10.99/month and all my songs got deleted. Is this correct? Do I have to keep paying this$ every month so I don’t lose my songs?

Hi,

You only have access to songs downloaded from Apple Music whilst you have an active Apple Music subscription.

Music previously purchased or imported should still be available.
