Alexa won't play Apple Music, even though it is linked in the app

I recently bought my son an echo dot for Christmas and am trying to link our family shared Apple Music subscription so it will play music. I have went through the process of linking the skill and it says it has successfully linked but then when I go to the skill it says 'you need an active Apple Music subscription to use with Alexa'. I have an active subscription and it was successful in linking so why does it say this and won't play?? I've tried reading other threads but people seem to have a different issue than I do. Please help!
