Macbook pro annoying "Toot" sound

I have a MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019, macOS Ventura 13.0.1. Recently, (~ 1 month) it has started making the random notification (I guess) sound. It's probably supposed to be a "ding" but it sounds like a "toot", like one note on a Pan's Pipe.

I've turned off every sound I can find and it won't stop.

I'd really appreciate any help / ideas / solutions.

(NOTE: It even bleeds in to FaceTime calls, Zoom, MS Teams, and others.)

Hi P1tterP4tter,

A good way to identify what is generating this sound is to start with Change the alert sounds on Mac and follow the first two steps:

  1. "On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Sound  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the pop-up menu next to “Alert sound” on the right, then choose a sound.

The alert plays when you select it so you can hear how it sounds."

This will allow you to preview what each notification sound is to identify the name of the noise you're hearing. Once identified, you can follow Change Notifications settings on Mac to see what apps have that sound set as a notification. You may also check the Notification Center per Use Notification Center on Mac when this sound is played to see if you can identify what is triggering it.

Regards.
