iPad 1st Gen asking for "Recovery Key". No such key ever created.

I endured the wait to recover my account. All went well until I tried to update the password information in my iPad. The iPad is now asking for a "Recovery Key" where none was ever created. Also, as my account is now accessible, Recovery Key has not been activated. Two questions come to mind... 1) What changed that now my iPad is not in my list of devices as it was before Account Recovery, and 2) why are the instructions in support.apple.com agnostic to my iPad?

Hello Ikearat,

It would be very hard to provide a specific reason this may have occurred, given the information we know thus far; we'd only be speculating.

Where are you updating your Apple ID password on your iPad exactly? Is it prompting for the account recovery code or 6-digit code, as it may have been connected to the network when account recovery was in process.

According to: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password

After you start account recovery

After you request account recovery, you get an email with a confirmation of your request and the date and time of when you can expect to regain access.

- If you submitted your account recovery request with iforgot.apple.com through your device's browser, you should avoid using that device during this period. Using that device might cancel account recovery.

- To avoid delays, turn off other devices that are signed in with your Apple ID until account recovery is complete.

When the wait period is over, Apple sends you a text or automated phone call with instructions to regain access to your account. Follow the instructions to immediately regain access to your Apple ID.

In some cases, you might be able to speed up the account recovery process or reset your password immediately by verifying a six-digit code sent to your primary email address. You might also be able to shorten the wait time by providing credit-card details to confirm your identity. If you’re given this option, an authorization request goes to the card issuer.*

Was your iPad on and active during account recovery? Is the iPad up to date? Is the iPad using the same Apple ID as your other devices? This will continue to help us narrow down the issue and work towards a solution together.

Hoping to hear back, take care.

Hello destiny241,

I had completed Account Recovery and access to my Apple account was restored. My iPad was "missing" from the list of devices so I opened it and attempted to satisfy it's request for a valid passord. Using the dialogue for logging into my Apple account in the Settings on the iPad is when I got the prompt for a "Recovery Key". No attempt to use the iPad was attempted while I was on the waiting period for Account Recovery.

The iPad has the most recent version of operating system that it will support. It worked without issues, including "Find My" and everything before Account Recovery. The iPad does use the same ID as my other devices. No prompt for a 6digit code was offered.
