Freesurfer software crashes when launched from the terminal

Hello,

I have a "crash on launch" problem with my installed FreeSurfer software. It works fine when using the software outside of the terminal, but when I call it from inside of a bash terminal, it crashes with the error :

"bug_type": "309", "os_version": "macOS 13.1

I have installed python, python2, and python3, which are all accessible from the shell. The PATH is also set to the FreeSurfer location in the APPLICATIONS folder.

Is there a privacy or accessibility issue with the direction in which the software is installed (APPLICATIONS)? Do I need to install additional packages to support FreeSurfer (e.g., QtCore, since it pops in the error log)? The error log is attached.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.1

Hello nasim266,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help get the software working as expected. Use these steps when an app isn't working as expected on your Mac:

"If an app on your Mac does not work as expected, try this.

  1. Quit and reopen the app

Quit the app, then open it again. If the app won't quit, force the app to quit. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

2. Restart your Mac

Restart your Mac. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

3. Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, then click Updates. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your Mac. Or if you didn't get the app from the App Store, look for updates to the app on the app developer's website. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

4. Reinstall the app

Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. If you didn't get the app from the App Store, redownload the app on the app developer's website. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed."

Or if these steps don't apply, you will want to reach out to the developer directly for more help. We found this link to to assist you: FreeSurfer – Open Source Imaging

We hope these steps can help isolate and resolve the issue to get the software working as expected.

Cheers!
