Ventura File Extension Bug

Hi, I visited this thread and discovered what appears to be a bug:

How to hide extensions in Ventura? - Apple Community

Within the "Save as PDF" dialog boxes in both Apple Mail and in Safari, checking the box "Hide Extension" does nothing. The file extension is always displayed in the saved file's name, regardless of whether that box is checked. This behavior is new for me with the update to Ventura, 13.1.

In Finder Settings, "Show all filename extensions" is unchecked, and toggling it on and off again has no effect on the above behavior.

Screen shots attached...

Has anyone else noticed this?

Seems normal...

I could not see recognizing most anything without extensions showing, however I am not you.

Sorry, I don't understand your reply. So you believe that normal behavior for the OS is that the "Hide Extension" box performs no function? Or are you saying that the "Hide Extension" box works properly for you?

Can you save PDFs from Mail and Safari with the file extension hidden? I can't.

(And I could before the upgrade to Ventura)

I have never attempted to hide a file extension in over 20 years... to say more.

Thanks! In Safari, neither the "Export as PDF" action in the File menu nor the "Save as PDF..." action in the Print Dialog box will save PDFs with a hidden file extension, something that was normal expected behavior prior to Ventura on my Mac. (And if it were not expected behavior, why would Apple include the option at all?)

In Apple Mail, the same thing applies. Neither "Export as PDF" nor "Save as PDF..." in the print dialog box will save PDFs with hidden file extensions. I normally use the "Save as PDF..." command in the Print Dialog box, which prior to Ventura would save PDFs with hidden file extensions. Now it will not.

The other image I attempted to include above was of the Finder settings box, showing the unchecked "Show all filename extensions", which was mentioned in the above-linked forum thread as a possible solution.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and replies, everyone!

Re-attaching the Finder screenshot in case it works this time.

I don't see any "Save as PDF" dialog box. There is an "Export as PDF" action. Is that what you are talking about?

I'm not being pedantic here. There are lots of 3rd party PDF tools and most of them will change and/or break default behaviour with respect to PDF tools. So if you are describing something that others don't see exactly, I can't assume it is just a typo.

It looks like one of your screenshots is corrupted. Sometimes the forum does that to attachments.

I can't reproduce what you describe. It seems to work as you would want.
