Using airplay to play music

I have an iPhone XR running 16.1.1. For years I used airplay on my iPhone to play music from Sirius XM or Amazon Music apps to my Onkyo TX-8160 stereo receiver without entering a password. However, about two years ago, when I tried to play music on my stereo, I would get a message saying "Enter the password for TX-8160". I've never set up a password, so while I can play music using Bluetooth, I'm locked out of using airplay (which I prefer using for lots of reasons). Can anyone help?

iPhone XR, iOS 16

Hi JenStac,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're attempting to play music to your Onkyo TX-8160 stereo receiver and it's prompting you for a password to do so.

We would suggest that you contact the manufacturer of your Onkyo TX-8160 stereo receiver since Onkyo isn't an Apple product. They'd be best suited to assist you. You can find their contact information here: Contact Onkyo

Take care!

Thanks Miche11e_P for the response. As I mentioned in my post, I was able to play music from my iPhone to my stereo receiver for years with no password required. Then, all of a sudden, a password was required, which meant that I haven't been able to use airplay from that day until now. So, the first thing I did once I got the error message was to call Onkyo's help line, and their representative had no answer for me. Thinking that I possibly connected with an untrained person on the helpline, I called a second time, spoke to a new person, who also had no answer for me. Finally, on my third call to Onkyo, the representative told me to try 0000 as my password. I tried 0000 and that didn't work. I still get the same message whenever I try to use airplay.

Problem Solved! I took your advice and contacted Onkyo again. This time I got a reply telling me that I needed to refer to page 38 of the TX-8160 manual and "clear the password that was created manually in the settings of the receiver". I did this and NOW I CAN USE AIRPLAY AGAIN TO PLAY MUSIC ON MY STEREO. Thank you so much for your help!
