How long does it take for icloud storage to free up after deletion of text message attachments?

I've deleted hundreds of MBs of attached videos and photos from my text messages, but iCloud is still reporting that it is about 90% full; which is where it was prior to the mass deletion. Does anyone know how long it takes before iCloud updates to reflect those deletions? Or is there a trash can that I need to clear?
