“Software Update Available” but “iPadOS is up to date”

I have a red circle with a “1” next to Software Update Available” in the Settings app, but when I tap it, it reads, “iPadOS 16.2 iPadOS is up to date”

How do I either get the mysterious update or clear the notification that an update is available.

I recently updated to 16.2 and had this issue. Rebooting did not work, but turning off automatic updates and then turning it back on got rid of the red button alert.

Hello Red Wullf,

We would like to see how we can help you with your unexpected notification. If you restart the iPad with the steps in this link, does the issue return: Restart your iPad

"How to restart an iPad without a Home button

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo."

Cheers!
