iOS 16.2 and dropped calls on iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro.

We are on T-Mobile. Just upgraded to iOS 16.2 (automatic upgrade feature is on). Notices phone calls are getting dropped after 30 seconds, after 2 minutes, after xx seconds -- completely random.

Turned off wi-fi calling and everything seems fine. What is going on? I thought this was an old problem but still happening now.....

I believe this is a race condition in iOS 16.2. When the signal strength of 5G oscillates like a sine curve, the phone is trying to switch between 5G, LTE, and Wi-Fi. This is leadings to dropped calls, or even dropped conversations when in the call. Dropped conversation is defined as the person on the other end not hearing me speak or I hear every 3rd or 4th word the other person is speaking. This happens all the time with 16.2. This is a definite bug in iOS16.2.

Hi rasriniv,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities!

Does this continue on any Wi-Fi network that your device is connected to?

The symptoms you've described could be due to interference.

As a troubleshooting steps, you can confirm there is no wireless interference like mentioned in this article: Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference- Apple Support.

If this continues, you may want to reach out to your carrier to confirm there are no issues on their end since Wi-Fi calling is a carrier feature.

Have a good one!
