“No password provided for…” error

I recently changed my password on my virgin.net email account and when I tried to input it into iOS it said “no password provided for Virgin”. The error is also happening on my iPad but NOT on my MacBook. That works fine. I have tried deleting the account altogether on my iPhone and iPad and then adding the account again, but with no joy. Always the same error message.

I See lots of other posts on here with similar problems. Has anyone found out how to fix this? Thanks!

We'd like to better understand what's happening by confirming the following details, along with ruling out some possible causes:


  1. You mentioned that you already tried adding/removing the account from your iPad and iPhone, but the same message shows, but where exactly is the message showing?
  2. Regardless of the message, are you still able to send/receive email from your Virgin.net account?
  3. We understand you're not having any issues with the account on your Mac, but any issues if you test logging in with the new password on the website for your email account?
  4. Any issues with other email accounts set up in your devices, like iCloud as one example?
  5. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone and Restart your iPad
  6. For your iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.1.2. If you're using a compatible iPad model, the latest version is iPadOS 16.1.1. Within each device, you can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
