iMac Late 2013 27'' SSD temperature sensor required?

Hello all,

there are already many entries on this topic on the net, yet I could not find a satisfactory answer to my question:

If I install a Samsung 870 QVO 2TB SATA 2.5 inch SSD in my iMac Late 2013 27'' (sold in Germany) using the mounting frame ORICO 2.5'' to 3.5'' (All products can be found using these designations e.g. on Amazon), do I then need the often described ("OWC") temperature sensor that is glued to the SSD? This is an adapter cable that is plugged between the SSD and the iMac hard drive port. The temperature sensor is attached to this adapter cable and glued to the SSD.

Is this temperature sensor really necessary, or does the fan control (without software tricks!) of the Mac also work without this sensor. Some users complain about permanently high fan speeds if no temperature sensor was installed - other users do not have this problem.

I would be very happy about experiences and a well-founded information.

No, I have done few 2013 2014 2015 and 2017 (27" iMac) with SATA SSD - none of them required the in-line temperature sensor, nor software hack.

If you have any doubt - you can use electric tape (a lot will be needed) to hold the screen to test run before you re-seal the screen.

You then can decide it.

Check the OWC SSD upgrade page for your specific iMac to see whether the OWC upgrade kit includes the temperature sensor. If the sensor is not included, then your iMac doesn't need one. I believe your iMac requires the temp sensor.

In fact OWC sells the sensor separately (along with the adhesive strips for the Display):
