I noticed apple watch 7 reports high heart rate during long haul flights. During a recent overseas flight with Qatar airways 777-300ER Qsuite resting on lie flat position, Apple Watch which was set to airplane mode, reported high heart rate! What’s wrong with Apple Watch 7?
No, it was not. My flight was cruising above 30,000 feet. I do not follow your last question - but I had my phone and watch both in airplane mode. It is normal for heart rate to fluctuate during long haul flights as the altitude has effect on blood pressure and heart rate. Apple Watch doesn’t seem to take into account that it is in airplane mode and that the person is not resting like they were on the ground. The alert thus is misleading and the watch needs to be programmed to take into account the variation in altitude and cabin pressure which cause human heart rate to fluctuate. Medical science.
No I stopped flying when I retired 18 years ago.
Remember "Apple Watch should not be considered a medical device".
If you slacken the strap for comfort it will not measure reliably.
I guess you already know where to put in a feature request to add the features you want.

Airplane mode does not tell the Watch to do anything different, which you seemed to suggest it might. It turns off cellular and Bluetooth and wifi if you select those and that's it
Incorrect high peaking HR is usually down to loose strap and I have been using similar watches for many years.
If your strap was the normal tightness then contact apple Support to have it checked .
Understood. I know the airplane mode doesn’t “instruct” the watch anything differently, but should it? Have you been flying long haul flights and keeping everything (strap, etc.) the same as when on the ground but getting heart rate alerts to the effect that Apple Watch is suggesting you have high rate while you’re not moving? If so, then as a high tech biomed CTO, I’d advise Apple engineers to consult with their R&D team to adjust the product. Trust me, I have much $$ invested in Apple and I want it to remain a top notch company.
Airplane mode has nothing to do with airplane flights.

Was your heart rate actually above the high limit? Did you check manually at the time?
Did the watch automatically drop into Sleep Mode?
