convert apple music files to mp3 in Music on Mac

I followed the Apple instructions to convert music files that I have bought to mp3 but when I get to the last step: "Select one or more songs in your library, then choose File > Convert > Create [format] Version" the file formats are greyed out so not available to choose.

Try right-clicking on one of the tracks and see if Download is an option from the context menu. If so use it, then try again. You should be able to convert purchased songs.
