iPhone contact photo reverts

This topic I’ve seen several times back to 2014 with no resolution.

With ALL contacts I try this with, when I crop and adjust their contact photo and press done all the way back to where there’s nothing more to press, the cropped photo will remain but once I go back to messages, the original uncropped photo remains. This is a well known documented problem. Apple, please provide a solution. Thank you.

That article is about syncing problems. The contacts all have synced fine. The issue is that the contact picture won’t edit properly.

Hello Dj9281,

Thanks for checking the original troubleshooting.

Since the photo is not sticking and reverts back to the older photo, please tell us where these contacts are from. This article will help: If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

"If your contacts, calendars, and reminders are in iCloud, then iCloud automatically updates your information. If your information is in a third-party account, like Google or Yahoo, you can change your default account to iCloud. Changing your default account to iCloud won't move your existing information from a third-party service to iCloud."

If they are from a third-party, downloading and importing them to iCloud may help resolve this.

Thanks.

Hi Dj9281,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like edited contact pictures are not saving properly. There are some basic troubleshooting steps we'd like to recommend first. If you have any pending updates, it would be a good step to install those updates to see if the issue persists after updating. This article can guide you through the update process if needed: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If updating doesn't help, we can try some other steps. You can use the Photos app to edit your contacts photos. Once edited, see if you're able to apply that edited photo to your contact: Edit photos and videos on iPhone

"

Crop, rotate, or flip a photo or video

  1. In Photos, tap a photo or video thumbnail to view it in full screen.
  2. Tap Edit, tap , then do any of the following:
    • Crop manually: Drag the rectangle corners to enclose the area you want to keep in the photo, or you can pinch the photo open or closed.
    • Crop to a standard preset ratio: Tap the Aspect Ratio Freeform button, then choose an option such as square, 16:9, or 5:4.
    • Rotate: Tap the Rotate button to rotate the photo 90 degrees.
    • Flip: Tap the Flip button to flip the image horizontally.

3. Tap Done to save your edits, or if you don’t like your changes, tap Cancel, then tap Discard Changes.

"

If you use iCloud to sync your Contacts, try visiting the iCloud website and select the specific contact that has the re-positioned photo. Once selected, try to edit it using the iCloud website and save your changes there to see if the issue persists. iCloud - Apple

Take care.
