Contacts Widget in 16.1.1

The contacts widget doesn't allow me to select different contacts to be viewed (I'm using the 4 contact mode). When I "Edit widget" I get a list of contacts in blue but they are not underlined. Consequentially I can't press to change them (but I can change their order).

I wonder if it's because I have 10,217 contacts across all my accounts?

Is there a limit to the number of contacts before it crashes?

Hey there, ===Andrew===,

You can still edit the contacts in the Contacts widget without the names being underlined. Just tap on the name and it'll allow you to select a new contact.

You can test to see if having less contacts allows you to make changes. Go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts and select an account. Turn off the contacts option. The contacts will only be removed from your iPhone, not the account.

Let us know the results.

Regards.

Hey ===Andrew===,

Did you have this issue before you updated to iOS 16.1.1? Also, how much storage does your iPhone currently have left?

Here's how you can check the storage info:

1. Go to Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You might see a list of recommendations for optimizing your device's storage, followed by a list of installed apps and the amount of storage each one uses.

2. Tap an app's name for more information about its storage. Cached data and temporary data might not be counted as usage.

How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad

We'll be looking forward to your response.

Cheers!

Yes it was an issue on 16.1 too.

Yes loads of space, it's a new iPhone 14 pro. Only 56GB of 256 is currently used.

As a programmer myself I wonder if the number of contacts I have is crashing the app and causing it to be unable to show the edit contacts selection page. I have an identical phone, with identical iOS and it works fine. The only difference I can see is the number of contacts on my phone.

When I tap on one of the 4 names in blue nothing happens.

If I toggle off contacts for the account with 10,000 contacts then the widget works - I can again select a specific user from the list. It looks like the contacts widget has some sort of internal limit on the number of contacts. If you exceed the limit you are unable to change the contacts displayed in the widget.
