Inaccurate sleep tracking

When I use sleep tracking on my Apple Watch it's feedback is inaccurate. For example, last night I had a lot of consecutive 'awake' minutes when I was asleep.

roelbego, we’d like to make sure that your Apple Watch and companion iPhone are both fully up to date.

For an iPhone, the latest iOS is 16.1.1. An Apple Watch should be on watchOS 9.1. If both devices needs updating, please start with your iPhone first:

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

After they’re fully updated, track your sleep and see if there’s any improvement.

If updating didn’t resolve the issue, or both device were up to date, delete the sleep schedule, restart the device, then set up your sleep schedule again. Depending on whether you set it up directly on your Apple Watch or iPhone, here are the steps:

Track your sleep on Apple Watch and use Sleep on iPhone - Apple Support

Track your sleep with Apple Watch - Apple Support

Afterwards, track your sleep again and let us know the results when you’re able.

All the best.

Hi,

Both devices were updated as soon as the OS updates released. I rebooted them after the update was finished.

I noticed a slight improvement after repairing my watch with my phone, movement must have been a factor. However there was a stop in measuring sleep around 30 minutes before I manually turned off the alarm.

Recently I am using an series 8, which is accurate than my 3 year old series 5.

Hey there roelbego,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. To get started, it is possible that your Apple Watch may be show you as awake due to movement during your natural sleep.

For steps on how to get more accurate results when tracking your sleep with your Apple Watch, check out the steps below: Track your sleep on Apple Watch and use Sleep on iPhone - Apple Support

Get more accurate results with your Apple Watch
If you paired your Apple Watch after completing Sleep setup, you can still turn on Track Sleep with Apple Watch. In the Watch app on your iPhone, tap the My Watch tab, then tap Sleep. Then tap Track Sleep with Apple Watch to turn on this setting. To get the most accurate results when wearing your watch to sleep:
- Turn on Charging Reminders. On your iPhone, open the Watch app and tap the My Watch tab, then tap Sleep. Tap Charging Reminders to turn on a reminder on your Apple Watch to charge before your Wind Down time. If your watch battery dies, it won't track your sleep data.
- Make sure that you're wearing your Apple Watch at a comfortable fit. If your watch is too loose, the accelerometer might register too much movement during your natural sleep.

Let us know if that's able to help.

Cheers!
