Photos app not importing from iPhone

I connect my iPhone 13 Pro (latest update) to my MacBook Air M1 (latest software), open the Photos app (updated )and select import all new items. The progress bar appears but it never leaves 0. Anyone else dealing with this wonderfully random Apple problem?
