CarPlay quality intermittently drops, fixed with Siri activation

Occasionally while I'm driving, podcasts and audiobooks (fully downloaded, not streaming) will reduce in quality and sound tinny and low volume. The volume adjustment is still insufficient at max to overcome road noise. The fix for this condition is to activate Siri on the CarPlay interface and cancel it. This happened with iOS 15 and 16 on my iPhone 13 Pro Max on 4 different vehicles with CarPlay, both wired and wireless.

Is there a way to maintain CarPlay audio quality without user intervention? Or is this a bug that needs to be addressed by developers?
