This behavior might have changed actually prior to iOS/iPadOS 16, but when I open a message in iOS Mail, select some of the text from the message, and then reply, the old behavior was that only the selected text would be quoted in the reply. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I seem to remember there was even a setting for that, but I don't see anything in Settings-->Mail about it. Anyone else seeing this?

It seems to be related to message size. For short emails I can reply with quoted text only. On longer emails the whole thing is copied into the reply. I haven’t tested to find where the breakpoint occurs.
I’m seeing this too. It no longer sends only the selected text, and there’s no setting to change this behavior. Same on iPadOS 16.1.
Yes, that’s how it’s SUPPOSED to work, but what we’re saying is that’s not happening for us.
Here’s some clarity- it works in one of my email accts, but not the other. The one it doesn’t is my work account that’s Microsoft 365 hosted.
Select-to-quote behaviour has changed. Why did they do that? After all, the old behaviour remains unchanged on the macOS side.
